Charlotte is a resentful WWII refugee whose path crosses with Jack, a ‘misfit’ in British aristocracy. Neither is able to accept the situations they find themselves in. Charlotte wants her old privileged life reinstated; Jack, a ‘blow-by’, wants recognition of his status. Through their sense of grievance they marry. Circumstances and countries separate them, one in Britain the other in Australia, and neither is equipped to deal with the adversities which confront them. Gaining maturity proves to be a hard road and each relies on their personal ‘rainbow’ talisman for strength and security as they travel their roads apart.
